Hygiene Tips

While a regular trip to the hygienist is essential to keep your teeth really clean, there is a lot that you can do yourself in the meantime.

Here are some hygiene tips from our resident hygienist, Jacky Hart :

  1. Brush your teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day. Many of the latest electric toothbrushes have an audible cue to help you to know how long you have been brushing
  2. Use dental floss or interdental brushes daily. This ensures that the gaps between your teeth are kept nice and clear, a job which floss does more effectively than a toothbrush
  3. Chew sugar free gum with 'xylitol' after meals
  4. Change your toothbrush or toothbrush head every 3 months. Flattened bristles will not clean your teeth effectively
  5. Use a fluoride toothpaste
  6. Spit after cleaning rather then rinsing with water. This allows the fluoride in the toothpaste to carry on doing it's job
  7. Use a fluoride mouthwash at a separate time to brushing your teeth
  8. Have regular dental check-ups & have your teeth cleaned professionally at the interval recommended by the dentist
